How to Get a Girlfriend / Science of Attraction - Tinder & OkCupid Relationships

Welcome to The Fluffy T Rex. Let’s explore the science behind meeting and attracting a girl. According to a 2012 study done at Stanford, the most common way to meet a spouse is through friends.

But that might soon be a limiting approach. But approaching a female can be scary. That’s normal.

But we can decide to act despite of our fears. One of the originators of cognitive behavioral theory Albert Ellis, was terrified of approaching girls. Yet in just one month he pushed himself to talk to 100 women in the Bronx Botanical Gardens. Despite his efforts only a single girl agreed to go on a date with Ellis, but she didn’t even show up. So maybe the girls not attracted to him, but then again, what are girls attracted to?

Let’s start by looking at the mere exposure effect. Several experiments have shown that the more we see the same image, the more we like it. But this only works up to a point. So while hanging out with a girl repeatedly will probably make her like you, that doesn’t necessarily mean she’ll be attracted to you. No, what a girl is attracted to is confidence right?

So what is confidence? In psychology, we usually use the term self-efficacy. Which is our belief that we can succeed in a particular situation or task. Our self-efficacy when it comes to dating a girl is correlated to our success at having done so in the past. So we’d want to get as many positive experiences dating girls as possible, and one way to do that is to ask a girl out who you may not be super attracted to, but who you find interesting and who you think might say yes.

Have you ever wondered; what is a girl like that, doing with a guy like him? But you know it’s actually a good question because studies show that we usually form relationships with people who are “in our league”. And it also shows that we like people more who are similar to us in other ways. “Hey, do you want to grab a lunch right over there?” “Yeah! Thank you for asking”. Looks also matter.

Studies have shown that women are more attracted to men with a V-shaped torso. Which you could get by working out, eating right, and wearing clothing which highlight this feature. And while you’re shopping for new clothes, you should also think about wearing a similar style to what you want your dream-girl to wear. Remember, we like those who are similar to us.

Clothes that symbolizse high status will in most cases be better, as long as you will confident and comfortable in those clothes. We are more willing to do what high-status people say, and we also care more about what they think of us. We are all genetically wired to want to mate with someone who can give us a child that has the best chance of surviving and replicating.

But status isn’t everything. You know the feeling of being attracted to someone? Your heart beats faster, your blood rushes through your head, and you feel nervous. Well it turns out our brains are easily tricked. In one experiment, researchers sent male students across a sturdy bridge.

Once they reached the other end, one of the experimenters, a girl, gave each participant her phone number. The set-up was replicated with one major change. Now, the male students had to traverse a scary suspension bridge.

The researchers discovered the guys who had crossed the scary bridge were more likely to call the female experimenter afterwards. Researchers believe that this is because of a misattribution of arousal. But we think in our brain that those feelings must mean we’re attracted to someone. And the girl is there, so our brain is kind of like: Oh, my heart is beating faster, my heart is beating faster, it must be because of the girl.

But all the while it’s actually because we’re just walking on a scary bridge. So for your next date, You might be better off if you do something that get’s your blood rushing. Oh, you wanted to know how to get a date in the first place? Well you could use a dating app like Tinder or OkCupid. OkCupid has published some data on their users that shows how people respond to different pictures.

And pictures matter. You thought you were clever with that funny tagline? OkCupid’s data shows that profile text matters less than 10% of what girls think of you online.

And even when you do put effort into your pictures. Girls rate 80% of all guys to look worse than average. Harsh!

So what pictures do girls like? While first off quality rules. Expensive, inter-changeable lens cameras lead to pictures that are more likely to get a like than a picture taken with a smart-phone.

And even the time of the day can impact how attractive you look. Pictures taken during the golden hour, that is the hours in the morning and in the evening. Those pictures perform better than pictures taken any other time of the day. And there are some important myths around profile pictures.

For example, if you ask girls what they like, they might say that you should keep your shirt on. But there’s sometimes a difference between what girls say they want, and what they actually want. The data shows that a guy showing off their upper bodies have an easier time getting dates.

Another myth is the notion that you have to smile. Pictures where you look into the camera like this and smile, perform really bad. And it’s actually better to look away, and be serious. By the way, this blurry background is to illustrate a point.

The more blurry your background the higher the likelihood that you’ll get a like. Finally, let me end with this: I know science might seem like a cold approach to something so emotional as love, but remember that any man any woman of her feet, if he just uses the right broom.
